A traffic stop for expired registration escalated into a high-speed chase Tuesday night, ending with one suspect in custody and another still at large, authorities said.
According to the Kings County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy attempted to pull over a vehicle near Jersey Avenue and Alkali Drive at approximately 8:24 p.m. after the driver failed to yield.

The suspect vehicle entered the Santa Rosa Rancheria, striking a stop sign and reaching speeds of over 60 mph in areas with posted 15 mph limits.
The chase ended when the vehicle became immobilized in a dirt berm south of a residential area. The male driver and a female passenger fled on foot into a wooded area known as the Slough, while a male passenger in the front seat was taken into custody.
Deputies launched a ground search with the assistance of K-9 “Blue” and aerial support.
The K-9 unit located the female suspect, identified as Alizae Alicia Fernandez, hiding in shrubbery about 50 yards from the abandoned vehicle.
She was apprehended and treated for injuries sustained during the arrest before being transported to a hospital for further evaluation.

A search of the vehicle uncovered 94 grams of methamphetamine near where Fernandez had been seated, along with packaging materials consistent with drug sales, authorities said.
A records check revealed Fernandez was on active Tulare County probation for drug sales and had outstanding felony warrants for drug-related offenses and auto theft. She also had a felony warrant from San Luis Obispo County for felony auto theft.

After receiving medical clearance, Fernandez was booked into the Kings County Jail on multiple charges, including drug transportation and distribution.
Her bail was set at $100,000. The male driver remains at large, though authorities say an arrest warrant is expected pending further investigation.
