Authorities in Kings County arrested a man in connection with the theft of a tractor and disc valued at $64,000.

The Kings County Rural Crimes Unit launched an investigation on Thursday after Westhaven Agribusiness reported the equipment stolen near the Avenal Cutoff and 30th Avenue.

The missing tractor, a John Deere 5100GN model worth $60,000, and a 6 1/2-foot Domries disc valued at $4,000, were later found just north of Avenal, off Highway 33, the Kings County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Deputies questioned Enrique Teran at the scene, where he admitted to taking the tractor, authorities said. A records check revealed multiple active warrants for Teran in Kings County.

He was booked into the Kings County Jail on charges including possession of stolen property and taking a vehicle without permission.

Prosecutors added an enhancement under Proposition 36, a measure approved by California voters last November, which allows courts to impose additional penalties for property crimes exceeding $50,000.

If convicted, Teran could face an extra year in state prison, authorities said.
