A recent study suggests that adopting a plant-based diet and limiting ultra-processed foods during middle age could significantly increase the chances of reaching 70 without major chronic illnesses, according to The Washington Post.
The research, published on Monday, highlights the long-term benefits of maintaining healthy eating habits in one’s 40s, 50s, and 60s. Diets rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins were associated with better health outcomes later in life.
“What you eat in your 40s, 50s and 60s may affect how healthy you are at age 70,” the study notes, emphasizing the importance of dietary choices during these crucial decades.

Research Aligns With Mediterranean and DASH Diets
The findings align with popular eating plans like the Mediterranean and DASH diets, which prioritize whole foods and plant-based nutrition. Many individuals have reported positive experiences with these dietary approaches, citing benefits such as slowed disease progression and improved overall well-being.
Experts suggest that combining a healthy diet with regular exercise and moderation in all aspects of life can contribute to healthier aging. This holistic approach to wellness appears to offer the best chance of avoiding chronic diseases as we grow older.
As the population continues to age, understanding the long-term impacts of dietary choices becomes increasingly important for public health initiatives and individual wellness strategies.
