Fresno police officer Ryan Torres, who known by colleagues for his enthusiasm and commitment to the community, has died after a battle with cancer, the department announced.

Torres, a Fresno native and 2015 Clovis West High School graduate, died Friday, March 21. He had served with the Fresno Police Department for more than four years, beginning his law enforcement career as a cadet in 2021.

Assigned to the Northwest and Southeast policing districts, Torres exhibited a positive attitude and dedication to helping others. He had aspirations of joining the department’s Special Weapons and Tactics team and was preparing for the qualifying exam when he was diagnosed with cancer.

“While Ryan deeply loved his work as a police officer, his love for his wife, Zoe, was even greater. She was his greatest supporter and the love of his life, always encouraging him to pursue his dreams,” the department said in a statement.

During his high school years, Torres played second base and outfield for Clovis West and the Central Valley Heat travel team. He continued his love of athletics, which also included soccer, by playing with family and friends.

Torres is survived by his wife, Zoe.

The department asks the public to keep Torres’ family and colleagues in their thoughts.
