A 29-year-old woman from Madera was killed Monday in a solo vehicle crash on Road 28½, near Avenue 17, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at about 12:24 p.m. when the woman, driving a blue 2024 Acura Integra with her 10-month-old son in the back seat, veered left across the northbound lane and onto the east dirt shoulder, CHP officials said.

The vehicle struck a barbed wire fence and wooden posts, causing a wooden post to pierce the windshield.

The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene, authorities said.

The child, who was properly restrained in a car seat, was transported to Valley Children’s Hospital for evaluation.

Authorities have not released the driver’s identity.
