President Donald Trump has hit the ground running in his second term, but his latest Gallup poll numbers show his lowest job approval rating to date.

During Trump’s first term, Gallup reported his highest job approval rating at 49%.

His highest approval rating so far in his second term was 47% during the post-inauguration “honeymoon phase,” which is lower than his first-term peak.

Trump’s lowest first-term approval rating was 34% as he left office in 2021. As of Feb. 3-16, his approval rating stands at 45%.

Historically, the average approval rating for U.S. presidents between 1938 and 2025 has been 52%, with first-quarter averages for elected presidents at 61%.

In February of their first terms, Joe Biden had a 57% approval rating in 2021, Trump had 42% in 2017, and Barack Obama had 64% in 2009.

For Trump’s second-term trend, his approval rating stood at 47% in January, immediately after his inauguration, with 48% disapproving and 4% having no opinion. About two weeks later, his approval dropped to 45%, disapproval rose to 51%, and 5% had no opinion.

Approval ratings remain sharply divided along party lines, with 93% of Republicans, 37% of independents, and 4% of Democrats approving of Trump’s performance.

Since his inauguration, approval has risen by 2 percentage points among Republicans, fallen by 9 points among independents, and dropped by 2 points among Democrats.
