As a way to help treat people suffering from serious diseases, a Fresno dispensary will offer free marijuana to veterans and people with medical cards.
The Artist Tree, located at Palm and Nees avenues, will join two of the chain’s other branches for its Compassion Program. People with serious medical conditions or veterans who have a medical marijuana card will be eligible to receive free marijuana products beginning Monday, Feb. 17, according to a news release.
“We know that many medical patients struggle to afford medication, so we are launching our Compassion Program with the goal of increasing medical access to cannabis to those most in need,” said Lauren Fontein, co-founder and chief compliance officer with Artist Tree.
Artist Tree Program Could Help 100 Patients a Month
The Artist Tree started nearly 20 years ago as a dispensary for people with medical needs. The founder’s grandmother suffered from stomach cancer, and The Artist Tree helped secure treatment for her, company officials said.
People with medical cards can register at the Fresno, West Hollywood, and Laguna Woods locations. Free items include extracts, tinctures, flower, marijuana cigarettes, edibles, and topical ointments.
The Artist Tree expects to serve 100 patients a month at each location.
The Artist Tree has also donated to the Fresno Arts Council, Feeding America, local blood drives, and the L.A. wildlife relief efforts.
