ABC30 reported that a Fresno County judge cleared former Fresno City College men’s basketball coach Edward Madec of criminal wrongdoing, ruling that the charges against him did not meet the standard of probable cause.
Details of the Alleged Incident
Madec was arrested on Oct. 13, 2023, after allegedly threatening to shoot college officials and students during an Aug. 15 class.
According to the college, Madec made threatening comments about bullets on a PowerPoint presentation and claimed to possess a firearm. He also allegedly threatened to kill State Center Chancellor Dr. Carole Goldsmith.
Madec was arrested in Merced County, booked into Fresno County Jail, and released on bail.
He was previously removed as coach due to alleged violations and briefly coached at Buchanan High School in 2022 before resigning.
Highly Successful Coach
Madec has been one of the best community college coaches in California. He won more than 400 games along with 14 Central Valley Conference championships and two state titles.
As Fresno City’s coach, Madec said he helped more than 100 players receive scholarships to four-year colleges.
‘I Want My Life Back’
After the judge’s ruling, Madec, who denied the charges, expressed a desire to move forward with his life. “I just want to move on with my life and get my life back,” he said.
Judge Brian Alvarez dismissed the charges, stating, “I have not heard any evidence that Mr. Madec intended for his statement to be communicated to the chancellor,” ABC30 reported.
A civil case regarding Madec’s employment at Fresno City College is ongoing.
