Some endangered Democratic senators are highlighting their connections to former President Trump in campaign ads as they seek reelection in battleground states. Sens. Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin and Bob Casey of Pennsylvania recently released ads featuring Trump, according to an Axios analysis.
Casey’s ad touts that he “sided with Trump to end NAFTA and put tariffs on China,” while Baldwin’s commercial claims she “got President Trump to sign her Made in America bill.” Rep. Elissa Slotkin, running for Senate in Michigan, has spent over $1 million on an ad mentioning a law she wrote that Trump signed.
This trend extends to other vulnerable Democrats like Sens. Jon Tester of Montana and Sherrod Brown of Ohio, who are running in states likely to support Trump. Their ads have featured Republican voters who back Trump but also support the Democratic senators.

“These Senate Democrats all voted to impeach President Trump twice, so it is surprising that they are now running ads praising his work as President,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee communications director Mike Berg.
The strategy comes as split-ticket voting declines, making Senate races more closely tied to presidential results in each state. It signals how competitive key Rust Belt races might be this year, with Democrats attempting to appeal to moderate voters.
