A late-night shooting in southwest Fresno on Sunday left one man dead, prompting an investigation by local authorities, the Fresno Police Department said in a news release Monday.

This incident marks 25th homicide in Fresno for 2024, mirroring the number of homicides reported at this time last year, according to authorities.

Around 11 p.m., ShotSpotter technology detected multiple bursts of gunfire near the intersection of Myers Street and Arthur Avenue.

The system registered three distinct instances of gunfire: an initial barrage of 44 rounds, followed by 13 rounds, and a final discharge of 2 rounds.

Officers found Patrick Dixon Jr., 35, in the backyard of a nearby residence, suffering from severe gunshot wounds to his upper body.

He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center where he died.

In total, ShotSpotter recorded 59 rounds fired during the incident, with over 40 cartridge casings recovered from the street in front of West Myers Street, according to authorities.

The gunfire damaged two vehicles and struck a home, prompting concerns from residents about safety in the neighborhood.
