The chase began just before 9 a.m. when an officer on patrol near Peach and Shaw Avenues noticed a suspicious vehicle.
The driver, identified as Ivan Rangel, 44, of Fresno, sped off upon spotting two police cars. Rangel lost control at Willow and West Santa Ana Avenues but managed to evade officers until a pursuit intervention maneuver stopped his vehicle a short distance away.

Rangel refused officers’ orders, punching out his car’s sunroof and shouting. He backed into a police car before officers deployed non-lethal “pepper ball” rounds, bringing him into custody.
A search of Rangel’s car uncovered a loaded, stolen handgun on the front seat, along with illegal drugs.
