Fresno City Council Vice President Mike Karbassi donated $1,000 to Valley Crime Stoppers to increase the reward for information leading to the arrest of the individual responsible for the attack on an unhoused man in the Tower District on Aug. 26.

Valley Crime Stoppers is matching the donation, raising the total reward to $2,000, the nonprofit said in a news release on Thursday.

The attack, which left the victim with serious injuries, has prompted a call for greater safety measures for the city’s vulnerable populations.

“The senseless and violent attack on this individual is heartbreaking, and we must do everything in our power to ensure that the person responsible is brought to justice,” said Karbassi. “By increasing the reward, I hope we can encourage anyone with information to step forward. Our community must stand united against violence and protect our most vulnerable residents.”

Valley Crime Stoppers Board President Dale Mendoza added, “We must come together as a community and send a clear message that this violent and cowardly act will not be tolerated. We are honored to be a trusted and proven part of helping to bring closure to victims of crime in our Valley.”
