Western intelligence sources have informed Sky News Arabia of Iran’s alleged plans to strike Israel on Tisha B’Av, a significant Jewish day of mourning.
The attack, reportedly coordinated with Hezbollah, is said to be in retaliation for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
Tisha B’Av, which falls on Aug. 12-13 this year, commemorates the destruction of the first and second Temples. The choice of this date is believed to carry symbolic weight, potentially exploiting perceived vulnerabilities during religious observances.
Supreme Leader Vows Revenge
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khameini expressed the intent for revenge on social media, stating, “Following this bitter, tragic event which has taken place within the borders of the Islamic Republic, it is our duty to take revenge.”
The report suggests that targeting Israel on this day of fasting and mourning could have a significant psychological impact. It draws parallels to previous attacks on Jewish holidays, such as the Oct. 7 assault by Hamas on Israel and the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

According to the sources, Iran may view this timing as an opportunity to catch Israel off-guard and send a message to the Islamic world about Israel’s perceived vulnerability.
Previous Attack Largely Thwarted
It’s worth noting that Iran’s previous large-scale attack on Israel in April was largely unsuccessful, with the IDF reporting that 99% of the projectiles were intercepted.
As tensions continue to escalate in the region, the international community watches closely for potential developments in this ongoing conflict.
