The Fresno Police Department is stepping up efforts to combat impaired driving, with targeted patrols planned for Saturday, June 29 from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Police remind the public that impaired driving includes not just alcohol but also certain prescription and over-the-counter medications. Thus, it’s crucial to follow usage instructions and heed  driving warnings on labels.

While marijuana use is legal, driving under its influence is not.

First-time DUI offenders face average fines and penalties of $13,500, plus possible license suspension.

The program to target impaired driving is provided via a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Residents are urged to report suspected impaired drivers and prioritize road safety.
