UC Merced’s campus and diverse student body are the stars of an episode on Season 11 of “The College Tour,” a TV series highlighting college campuses around the nation.

The shows are hosted by “The Amazing Race” winner Alex Boylan, who starts out the UC Merced episode by calling the university “a beacon of academic achievement — and inclusivity” as students of various races and ethnicities are shown in classrooms, on campus, and kayaking on a lake.

“UC Merced offers students an extraordinary experience, and we’re so excited to share that on ‘The College Tour’,” Boylan said in a news release from the university. “For students, choosing which college to attend is a monumental decision, and this episode gives prospective students a first-hand look at what makes this school so special.”

The show, now streaming on Amazon Prime Video, is also available online.

Virtual Campus Tours

The show’s goal is to bring equity to college readiness by providing access to comprehensive information about individual campuses, allowing prospective students and their parents to take cost-free virtual tours while hearing from actual students. In addition to shots of the campus inside classrooms as well as outdoors, the half-hour UC Merced episode also shows scenes of downtown Merced.

It’s designed to tell the story of each college and university through the perspective of its students, showing what life is like on campus and highlighting the resources and opportunities that are helping students thrive.

The UC Merced segment features students from Malaysia, Riverside, Barstow, Patterson, Murrieta, Santa Cruz, Modesto, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, New York, and Honolulu/Newport Beach.

UC Merced is the third UC to be featured on the show. UC Davis was on Season 2 and UC Riverside on Season 7.
