“Rods on the Bluff” at Park Place in north Fresno is more than an exhibit of sleek, polished pre-1975 cars and their thunderous engines.

Rods on the Bluff is an event to mark on your calendar, It’s 2024 kickoff was April 5, but you have three more opportunities to soak in the Central Valley’s car culture at the highest level — May 3, Sept. 6, Oct. 4.

It’s an exciting dive into a culture rich with personal stories and a strong sense of community that binds enthusiasts from varied backgrounds.

Rods on the Bluff is an event to mark on your calendar, It’s 2024 kickoff was April 5, but you have three more opportunities to soak in the Central Valley’s car culture at the highest level — May 3, Sept. 6, Oct. 4 — at Palm and Nees avenues.

This event reflects Anthony Granata’s vision. He’s a local educator driven by the memory of his father — a beloved figure in the hot rod circle. Seeking a way to honor his father’s memory, Anthony envisioned a gathering space for like-minded individuals to celebrate, reminisce, and nurture their collective passion for classic cars.

What started as a small initiative has flourished into an eagerly anticipated series of events, bridging the past and future of hot rod culture.

April’s edition showcased the unyielding spirit of hot rod enthusiasts. Despite unexpectedly cold weather, more than a hundred steadfast fans gathered to find joy and fellowship among roaring engines and gleaming chassis.

Every Classic Car Comes With a Story

More than a car show, Rods on the Bluff weaves a rich tapestry of personal stories and automotive achievements.

It’s where you’ll hear about individuals like Donnie Johnson, who transformed his 1967 Chevelle from a neglected shell into a stunning icon of power and style. Or stories like Durbin Loren’s, whose 1923 T Bucket, a cherished family relic, continues to captivate young and old —just as it did decades ago.

At its heart, this event epitomizes community. It’s a vibrant meeting point for people from all walks of life, united by their passion for cars. Rods on the Bluff does more than display remarkable vehicles. It also champions charitable causes, illustrating the hot rod community’s dedication to support and uplift one another.

With the introduction of events like the “Old Town Motorama” and various reliability runs and shop tours, the sponsoring Hot Rod Coalition is keeping the spirit of the culture alive and roaring. These gatherings are a testament to the culture’s enduring appeal, focusing on education, preservation, and celebration.

Rods on the Bluff is where tales of determination, creativity, and friendship are narrated against the backdrop of engine rumbles and polished chrome. Each event closes with a promise of more stories to come, more laughter to share, and more bonds to strengthen.
