Grapevine Fire Burns 100 Acres Near I-5 in Kern County, Remains 0% Contained

A wildfire burning near Interstate 5 in Kern County reached 100 acres and remained 0% contained Thursday morning, according to Cal Fire.

The Grapevine Fire started at 8:07 p.m. Wednesday along northbound I-5 at Lebec Road. The Kern County Fire Department has jurisdiction over the incident.

The fire initially burned about 15 acres and was displaying a moderate rate of spread, threatening power lines and prompting road closures. Northbound I-5 was initially closed at Lebec Road before the closure was extended to Highway 138.

By 10:03 p.m. Wednesday, the fire had grown to approximately 100 acres, but the incident commander reported that its forward spread had been stopped.

As of Cal Fire’s 6:08 a.m. Thursday update, the fire remained active and 0% contained.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
