Chris Spatola, an ESPN college basketball analyst and former starting guard for Army, died unexpectedly Monday at age 47, ESPN reported on Tuesday.

Spatola joined ESPN in 2015 after a playing, military and coaching career. He was a four-year starter at West Point, led Army in scoring three seasons, and finished with 1,543 career points.

After graduating, Spatola served on active duty from 2002 to 2007 and deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He later joined Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski’s staff from 2007 to 2012, helping the Blue Devils win the 2010 national championship.

Spatola is survived by his wife, Jamie, and their three children.
