The Kern County Sheriff’s Office handled 14,675 calls for service across Kern County in August, according to figures released by the agency.

Among selected call categories, deputies responded to 1,122 welfare checks, the highest number listed in the agency’s monthly summary.

The Sheriff’s Office also reported 388 battery or assault calls, 214 grand theft calls, 204 theft calls, and 203 burglary calls.

There were 12 calls categorized as sex crimes and no homicide calls listed for the month.

The agency’s communications center received 55,252 calls overall during August, including 25,829 calls to 911.

Another 105 contacts were made through text-to-911, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
