A California Highway Patrol officer seized an estimated $800,000 worth of fentanyl during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 in Fresno County, authorities said.

The stop occurred Sunday after a CHP Coalinga officer pulled over a 2002 Ford F-150 for a vehicle code violation, according to the agency.

During the stop, the officer observed several indicators consistent with criminal activity, CHP said. The driver consented to a search of the vehicle, and the officer discovered eight kilogram-sized packages concealed inside.

The driver was arrested, and the suspected narcotics were turned over to the Fresno High Impact Investigations Team for further investigation.

Authorities said subsequent testing confirmed the packages contained fentanyl. CHP estimated the drugs had a street value of about $800,000.

The CHP did not identify the driver or announce any charges. The investigation is ongoing.
