A man was cited and released after police said he crashed a vehicle and was later found to have a blood-alcohol content nearly three times the legal limit.

The collision happened Tuesday around 7:31 p.m. at First Street and Olive Avenue, according to Fresno police.

Fresno police said Nicholas Garcia, 38, fled on foot after the crash but was contacted a short distance away. Officers said Garcia showed several signs of alcohol impairment and underwent field sobriety tests.

Authorities determined Garcia was driving under the influence of alcohol. Police said his blood-alcohol content measured 0.21% and 0.22%.
