A man received his 39th arrest in Fresno County after being apprehended Friday after a high-speed chase that ended in a collision, authorities said.

Around 10 a.m., Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a stolen Ford pickup at First and Shaw Avenue. Nicholas Lefall, 38, sped away, weaving through traffic at up to 75 mph.

The pursuit ended at First and Bullard avenues when Lefall rammed a stopped Subaru, then fled on foot. Deputies, assisted by the EAGLE One helicopter, caught him nearby.

Lefall, on probation under California’s Post Release Community Supervision program, faces charges including auto theft, evading police, and resisting arrest.

Traffic was delayed for more than two hours while authorities cleared the scene.
