A commercial fire near downtown Fresno early Tuesday morning damaged a building that housed four businesses, the Fresno Fire Department said.

Firefighters were dispatched just after 1 a.m. to the 1800 block of Los Angeles Street following multiple reports of heavy smoke and flames.

Crews arriving at the scene found fire coming from the building and through the roof, officials said.

A second and third alarm were requested, ultimately bringing 80 firefighters to battle the blaze. Crews faced dangerous conditions, including roof collapses and concerns about the building’s structural integrity, the department said.

Two of the four businesses in the building are a total loss, while the other two suffered varying degrees of fire and smoke damage. No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.

Firefighters remained on scene Tuesday morning to extinguish hot spots and secure the structure. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
