A wildfire in western Fresno County has grown to 22,489 acres and was 25% contained as of Saturday morning, CalFire reported.

The blaze, named the Salt 14-2 Fire, started Tuesday near Jacalitos Creek Road outside Coalinga. The cause remains under investigation.

The fire continues to actively burn in light fuels with wind- and terrain-driven runs, but fire behavior moderated Friday night into Saturday morning as winds subsided, officials said. The flames are moving primarily through grass, timber and brush.

Four structures are threatened, though none have been destroyed or damaged.

Evacuations, Road Closures

Evacuation orders remain in place for zones P18B, P24B2, P25, P27A, P28 and MRY-G041-A. Evacuation warnings have been issued for P18A, P24B1, P27B and MRY-G041-B.

Road closures include Parkfield Grade at State Route 198 and Jacalitos Creek Road at West Lost Hills Road. Limited access for residents only is being enforced at South Merced Avenue at Lucille Avenue and Oak Street at Parkfield Coalinga Road in Monterey County.

Resources assigned to the fire include 76 engines, 41 water tenders, five helicopters, 77 bulldozers, 36 hand crews and other support units, for a total of 1,419 personnel.

Numerous firefighting air tankers from throughout California are flying suppression missions as conditions allow.

Evacuation information and incident updates are being posted online by CalFire Fresno County Fire and the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
