A Madera man was arrested Wednesday on federal charges for being a felon in possession of a firearm and for possessing counterfeit U.S. Postal Service keys, authorities announced.
Brian Hindman, 49, was taken into custody after officers arrested him on an outstanding state warrant for burglary on July 25, in a casino parking lot, according to U.S. Attorney Eric Grant.
Law enforcement found Hindman with a loaded 9 mm Ruger pistol, which he was prohibited from having due to prior felony convictions totaling more than four years in state prison.
Officers also discovered six counterfeit postal keys, often used by thieves to steal mail, along with multiple driver’s licenses and debit cards in other people’s names.
The investigation involved the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Madera County Sheriff’s Office.
If convicted, Hindman faces up to 15 years in prison for the gun charge, 10 years for the counterfeit key charge, and fines up to $250,000.
