A body was recovered Wednesday from the California Aqueduct near the Avenal Cutoff, a day after authorities began searching for a missing fisherman, the Kings County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies with the Sheriff’s Water Rescue Unit launched a search Tuesday after the Avenal Police Department requested help locating the man.
Crews used side-scan sonar, drones and vehicle patrols, but were initially unsuccessful in locating him.
The body was found Wednesday during a follow-up search. The remains were turned over to the Kings County Coroner’s Office for identification and investigation.
The Kings County Fire Department and the California Department of Water Resources assisted in the recovery efforts.
