A record number of U.S. Senate Democrats, more than half the caucus, voted last week to block U.S. military sales to Israel amid growing concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, The Hill reported.
Two resolutions, introduced by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont), failed largely along party lines. One aimed to stop a $675 million weapons sale and fell in a 27-70 vote. A second, targeting assault rifle sales, failed 24-73.
“This legislative tool is not perfect, but frankly, it is time to say enough to the suffering of innocent young children and families,” said Sen. Patty Murray (D-Washington), who voted yes.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-New Hampshire) also supported the resolution, saying she could not back more weapons “until the human anguish in Gaza comes to an end.”
The vote highlights eroding bipartisan support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as images of famine and mass death from Gaza intensify international criticism.
