A person sitting on the edge of a multi-story parking garage in downtown Fresno was safely brought down after a tense two-hour response by first responders Friday morning.

Just before 8:45 a.m., Fresno Fire, Fresno Police, and American Ambulance crews responded to reports of an individual perched with one leg hanging over the railing at the garage near Fulton and Kern streets.

Law enforcement officers worked with the individual to convince them to step away from the ledge. The person was escorted to safety and transported by Emergency Medical Services for treatment, officials said.

Authorities are encouraging anyone experiencing a mental health crisis to seek help. The National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7 by dialing 988.

“You are not alone,” the Fresno Fire Department said in a statement.
