WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he would invoke the Insurrection Act if he determined there was an insurrection under way as part of street protests in Los Angeles.
“If there’s an insurrection, I would certainly invoke it. We’ll see,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, a day after ordering some 700 U.S. Marines to Los Angeles, as part of a federal strategy to quell demonstrations opposing immigration raids.
Trump repeated his criticism of California Governor Gavin Newsom, saying he spoke with him a day ago.
