Chowchilla Officer Arrested in Sanger on Kidnapping and Assault Charges

The Sanger Police Department is investigating a disturbance involving an off-duty police officer that led to the arrest of Douglas Devine of the Chowchilla Police Department on multiple felony charges.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon and was initially reported as taking place nearby Orange Cove. However, investigators determined the events originated in Sanger.

Preliminary findings indicate the disturbance involved the transportation of two minor children and a male adult from Sanger to Orange Cove, .

Authorities say Devine assaulted the the man before transporting him and the children against their will.

Devine was taken into custody without incident later that evening at Sanger Police Department headquarters. He faces charges including kidnapping, felony assault, and child abuse.

The Chowchilla Police Department has been notified about the investigation and arrest. The case remains under active investigation, and no further details have been released.
