The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Rudy Veloz, 34, of Orange Cove.

Original Story

A 34-year-old man died Sunday afternoon after being shot at the Orchard Village Apartment Complex on South Avenue, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

At 1:10 p.m., dispatchers received reports of shots fired outdoors at the complex.

Officers from the Orange Cove Police Department were directed to an apartment unit. Inside, they found the victim, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds but was still conscious.

The man was transported by ambulance to Reedley Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities worked to identify the shooting suspect and focused on a 16-year-old boy as a potential lead.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s helicopter, EAGLE One, guided deputies to the suspect, who was taken into custody shortly after being found near the apartment complex.

Police confirmed the suspect and victim knew each other, but a motive for the shooting remains unclear.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation.
