A veteran fire captain in California was fatally stabbed in her home, with authorities investigating the incident as a potential domestic violence case, according to ABC News.

Rebecca Marodi, 49, was found with multiple stab wounds at her residence near Ramona, California, on Monday, Feb. 17.

Deputies from the San Diego Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about an assault with a deadly weapon around 9 p.m. Despite life-saving efforts by deputies and Cal Fire paramedics, Marodi was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives Suspect Domestic Violence

The Sheriff’s homicide unit is leading the investigation. “Investigators suspect that the victim knew the perpetrator and are treating this case as a potential domestic violence incident,” authorities stated.

Marodi served over 30 years with Cal Fire, primarily in Riverside County, with stints in San Bernardino and San Diego Counties.

Cal Fire said in a statement: “The tragic loss of Captain Marodi is mourned by her family, friends, and her Cal Fire family.”
