A registered sex offender who moved to Madera two weeks before committing a violent crime was found guilty Tuesday on charges of kidnapping and sexual assault, the Madera Police Department said in a statement.

Otis McKinzy, who kidnapped and sexually assaulted a Madera woman in March, was located hours after the victim’s escape and arrested in Elk Grove.

The survivor played a key role in McKinzy’s swift identification and apprehension.

The trial, held in Madera County Superior Court, concluded with the jury finding McKinzy guilty on charges of kidnapping and sexual assault. He faces up to 150 years in state prison at his sentencing on Jan. 16, 2025, authorities said.

Law enforcement agencies involved in the case praised the survivor’s courage and credited interagency collaboration for McKinzy’s capture and prosecution.

The Elk Grove Police Department was instrumental in locating McKinzy just five hours after the attack, authorities said.
