Fresno Unified’s new art gallery in downtown Fresno opens today with an exhibit by Roosevelt region students, “Reflections of Us.” The grand opening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. will include a variety of student performances.

The Art Education Center Gallery is at 1350 M St., the former location of the district’s Department of Prevention and Intervention.

The district previously leased space downtown to display student art but now has a gallery to call its own and will house exhibits from FUSD’s regions each first Thursday as part of ArtHop.

“We are excited to have our own space to showcase the artistic talent of our students, and to welcome our families, staff, and the community,” Interim Superintendent Misty Her said in a news release. “Arts education is crucial to providing our students with a multi-faceted education that supports our goal of improving student outcomes.”

Speaking of New Buildings …

Clovis Community College will celebrate the opening of its newest building, the Applied Technology Building, at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Tours of the building will be available after the program.

The Applied Technology Building, otherwise known as Academic Center 3 (AC3), is 67,411 square feet and contains labs and classrooms to support studies in environmental, health occupation, water and wastewater, food processing, and electro-mechanical technologies. It’s also got a learning resource center, quiet study rooms, student collaboration spaces, and faculty and administrative offices.

The ribbon cutting comes about a month after students and staff took possession of AC3 for the start of the fall semester. The $45 million structure was paid for with Measure C property tax revenues and state funds.

Although it has “Clovis” in its name, the college is actually in northeast Fresno at the corner of Willow and International avenues. Clovis Community College is part of the State Center Community College District, which has other campuses in central Fresno, Reedley, Madera, and Oakhurst.

Fresno State Hosts Ninth Annual Feria

Feria de Educación, the annual college fair held at Fresno State for Latino students and their families, will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the university’s Maple Mall.

The goal is to provide Spanish-speaking parents and students with information and resources to help them succeed in California’s educational system, attend post-secondary education, and attain their professional goals.

The event will also include informational workshops for students and families, a kids zone and reading garden, resource fair and more.
