Original Story

The Boone Fire near Coalinga in Fresno County has scorched 17,766 acres and is 34% contained as of Monday, according to CalFire.

Firefighters are working to protect 41 threatened structures. A total of 1,742 personnel are involved, with 144 engines, 54 water tenders, eight helicopters, 25 bulldozers, and 44 hand crews.

The Current Situation

The fire has been creeping and smoldering through rugged terrain, primarily within the established fire perimeter, incident managers said. Crews are focused on suppression repairs and reinforcing control lines.

Due to the challenging landscape, helicopters are being used to shuttle firefighters into the fire’s remote northwestern area to build containment lines.

CalFire reminds the public to be cautious along Highway 198 and throughout the fire area, as firefighters are working near or on roadways.
