The California Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to hear an appeal from Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria, who is the subject of a defamation lawsuit by a Fresno city councilmember.

The impact: Councilmember Mike Karbassi’s litigation against Soria will resume in a Fresno courtroom in August.

On Friday, GV Wire sought comment from Soria, who was in no mood to talk following a public event in Fresno. Previous efforts for a statement from Soria about the case failed to get a response.

In March, Joanna Garcia Rose, a Merced Republican, garnered more votes than incumbent Democrat Soria in the state Assembly District 27 primary.

Garcia Rose finished first in the primary even though Soria held a 36-to-1 fundraising edge.
