In a recent interview with CNN, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham stated that the U.S. should not impose any restrictions on the number of civilian casualties Israel may cause in its response to the Hamas terror attacks that occurred on October 7.
When asked if there should be a limit to the civilian casualties, Graham responded, “No. There is no limit.” He did, however, suggest that Israel should strive to minimize civilian casualties as much as possible and support humanitarian aid in areas that safeguard the innocent.
The Oct. 7 attacks by Hamas resulted in the death of at least 1,400 people and the capture of over 200 hostages. Since then, nearly 9,000 people have been killed in Israeli strikes, according to the Gaza health ministry.
Graham’s comments came in the wake of airstrikes on a Gaza refugee camp that claimed numerous lives. The Israeli military stated that a Hamas commander was the target, while Hamas reported that hostages, including those holding foreign passports, were among the casualties.
Graham, known for his hardline stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict, reiterated that the destruction of Hamas was “non-negotiable”. He expressed regret over the loss of innocent lives and asserted that Israel was making efforts to limit civilian casualties, while Hamas was doing the opposite.
Graham has previously made controversial statements regarding the conflict, including a call for the U.S. to attack Iran if Hezbollah, an Iranian-allied militia in Lebanon, were to attack Israel.
