The Sanger Police Department said that officer Manvir “Manny” Dhanoa, 26, died in an off-duty car crash on Millerton Road early Tuesday morning.
Dhanova joined the department on March 27 of this year.
“His enthusiasm for serving his community was evident from the moment he joined the force,” the department said in a Facebook post. “He possessed a deep commitment to upholding the law and ensuring public safety, traits that made him a valued member of our department.
“The Sanger Police Department extends its deepest condolences to Officer Dhanoa’s family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones during this immensely difficult time. We stand with them in their pain and sorrow, offering our unwavering support and assistance as they navigate this tragic loss. Officer Dhanoa’s memory and his dedication to protecting and serving our community will forever be cherished.”
Officials said flags at all city facilities will be flown at half-mast until Dhanoa’s funeral. In addition, the Facebook post said, “The community is invited to pay their respects by leaving messages of condolence at the Sanger Police Department’s headquarters, where a memorial has been established.”
Veered Off the Road, Struck a Culvert
A preliminary investigation by the California Highway Patrol indicated that Dhanoa was driving a 2022 Tesla eastbound on Millerton Road east of Sky Harbor Road when he veered right onto the south shoulder after 5 a.m. The Tesla then struck a culvert in the shoulder, causing the vehicle to overturn. Dhanoa was ejected from the vehicle.
A 23-year-old woman from Clovis riding in the Tesla was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries. The CHP said that a team from CalFire extracted her from the vehicle.
