The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office is hosting National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The collection site is the sheriff’s substation at 5717 E. Shields Ave. east of Clovis Avenue.

Take Back Day offers free and anonymous disposal of unneeded medications at more than 4,000 local drop-off locations nationwide.

However, the sites do not accept syringes, sharps, and illicit drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container. The cap must be tightly sealed to prevent leakage.

How to Find the Nearest Site to You

You can check for the collection site closest to you at this Department of Justice link.

For more than a decade, the event has helped Americans easily rid their homes of unneeded medications — those that are old, unwanted, or expired — that too often become a gateway to addiction.

By teaming up with local law enforcement agencies, the DOJ’s Take Back Day has collected more than 8,300 tons of medication since its inception.

If you can’t make it to a collection site, view this link to learn about other safe disposal methods.
