In the summer of 2019, an accident occurred inside a government-run biomedical lab in China that handles pathogens that can easily pass from animal to human. This happened not in Covid origin Wuhan, but in another Chinese city, Lanzhou.

The mysterious accident in Lanzhou eventually exposed 10,000 people to millions of airborne microbes, with hundreds becoming ill, scientific studies concluded.

The lack of transparency in China’s response raises concerns about its biotechnology sector’s ability to prioritize safety as it undergoes significant expansion. Laboratories have inadequately trained technicians, ongoing equipment problems, and a history of accidental infections with deadly pathogens.

Biosafety Procedures Were Lacking

According to The Washington Post’s investigation, high-containment laboratories have shown deficiencies in biosafety, with labs often indiscriminately disposing waste and not separating experiment and living spaces.
