A man in a Fresno County prison had eight years tacked onto his sentence for threatening to murder a federal judge once he was freed.

Cyrus Dennis Braswell mailed threats to a federal judge in Alaska who had sentenced him on unspecified charges in 1998.

Cyrus Dennis Braswell, 57, of Anchorage, Alaska, was sentenced in Fresno on Monday by U.S. District Judge Dale Drozd. In February, after a two-day trial in Fresno, Braswell was convicted on three counts of mailing threatening communications.

According to trial evidence, Braswell, an inmate at Mendota Federal Correctional Institute, mailed threats to a federal judge in Alaska who had sentenced him on unspecified charges in 1998. In the communications, Braswell threatened to murder the judge after he got out of prison.

Braswell will serve his new sentence after he completes his sentence from 1998.
