Vaccinations of Fresno Unified school staffers started Thursday at Valley Children’s Hospital, which plans to inoculate 3,000 district employees over a five-day period.
Employees are getting shots of the Pfizer vaccine supplied by the Fresno County Public Health Department.
The hospital initially was prepared to vaccinate 2,000 school employees but will be able to inoculate about 1,000 more in the first round because the county’s allotment increased, hospital spokeswoman Zara Arboleda said.
Fresno Unified, the state’s third largest school district, has about 10,000 employees. It’s not known what percentage of school staffers will opt to be vaccinated.
The vaccinations at Valley Children’s will continue until the employee vaccinations are completed.
Vaccine Clinics Headed to Hoover
Meanwhile, United Health Centers will be vaccinating about 1,000 Fresno Unified employees with the Moderna vaccine this Saturday at Hoover High School, with additional Saturday vaccine clinics scheduled for later this month.
A United Health Centers official said the amount of vaccinations will depend on how much is provided through the county Public Health Department, but the goal is for 1,000 employees to get shots at the Saturday clinics.
Fresno Unified is responsible for scheduling appointments and notifying employees.
