The Fresno Mission, which provides aid to homeless people, is dealing with a major setback following a break-in at its under-construction Family Center at City Center.

Thieves have done $175,000 to $300,000 in damage to the Fresno Mission’s City Center project. Contact Nathan Freeland at (559) 905-2802 or nfreeland@fresnomission.org if you’d like to make a donation.

The incident threatens to delay the center’s completion by several months, organization officials said Tuesday. The City Center is near Manchester Center at 2025 E. Dakota Ave.

The break-in, discovered over the weekend, caused damage to crucial construction materials, including wiring and copper pipes. The estimated cost of the damage ranges between $175,000 and $300,000. The incident has also disrupted the work of contractors and subcontractors, adding further delays to the project’s timeline.

City Center Was Set to Open in Mid-July

The Family Center, initially set to open in mid-July, now faces an uncertain completion date. This delay directly affects the Mission’s goal to serve families in need. Its current waiting list is  105 families.

The organization is reviewing video footage and eyewitness accounts to assist in the investigation. No suspects have been identified.

“We are deeply saddened by this act of vandalism that hinders our ability to provide much-needed support to the homeless and needy families,” said Fresno Mission CEO Matthew Dildine. “We appreciate the community’s prayers and support as we navigate through this challenging time.”
