â– Trump allies plan to promote Christian nationalism in potential second term.

â– Russell Vought leads the initiative, advocating for Christian values in government.

â– Plans include invoking the Insurrection Act and restricting immigration.

Russell Vought, former director of the Office of Management and Budget under Donald Trump and current president of The Center for Renewing America, is leading a conservative consortium in preparation for a potential second Trump administration. The group aims to infuse Christian nationalist ideas into the administration, according to documents obtained by POLITICO.

Christian Nationalism in Government

Christian nationalists believe that the U.S. was founded as a Christian nation and that Christian values should be prioritized in government and public life. Vought, who is often cited as a potential chief of staff in a second Trump administration, has embraced this ideology and has spoken about potential policies in response to perceived attacks on Christians.

The Center for Renewing America’s plans include invoking the Insurrection Act on the first day to quash protests and refusing to spend authorized congressional funds on unwanted projects. Vought has also promoted a restrictionist immigration agenda, citing Biblical teachings to determine who can enter the U.S.

Associations and Influences

Vought is closely affiliated with Christian nationalist William Wolfe, a former Trump administration official who has advocated for overturning same-sex marriage, ending abortion, and reducing access to contraceptives. Vought is advising Project 2025, a conservative agenda that aims to usher in one of the most conservative executive branches in modern American history.

The Trump campaign has stated that it alone is responsible for assembling a policy platform and staffing for a future administration. However, Vought’s proximity to Trump and his influence on the former president’s positions suggest that Christian nationalism could be a focal point in a second Trump term.

Vought’s Vision for America

Vought’s vision for America is one where “our rights and duties are understood to come from God,” and he has argued that Christianity should influence government and society. He has also defended the controversial practice of family separation at the border during the Trump years, arguing that “the decision to defend the rule of law necessitates the separation of families.”

The effort to incorporate biblical principles into laws is already underway in some states, with Christian conservative supporters in Texas pressuring the legislature to require public schools to display the Ten Commandments in every classroom and organizing campaigns around “culture war” issues.
