Et Tu, George Will? A Debate on Abandoning the GOP

For more than four decades, George Will represented the voice of conservative thought, through his Washington Post column and television appearances. But, the tenure of Donald Trump in the White House may have broken the Pulitzer Prize winning columnist.
In his recent Post piece, Will said maybe a Blue Wave isn’t such a bad idea.
“So, to vote against (Trump’s) party’s cowering congressional caucuses is to affirm the nation’s honor while quarantining him. A Democratic-controlled Congress would be a basket of deplorables, but there would be enough Republicans to gum up the Senate’s machinery, keeping the institution as peripheral as it has been under their control and asphyxiating mischief from a Democratic House,” Will wrote.
The National Review’s Dan McLaughlin offered a rebuttal, warning that following Will’s prescription would backfire on the goal of neutralizing Trump.
“[I]f voters follow Will’s advice, it will make the Trumpist faction more, rather than less, powerful within the Republican party,” McLaughlin wrote.
