Natalya Sindeyeva, the founder of the independent Russian TV channel Dozhd, struggled to the last but her station has been silenced – for now.
Keeping the station alive had cost Sindeyeva her home, her marriage, her health and her security. Her mugshot is now posted on street corners as a “foreign agent” and the defiant struggles of Dozhd to stay on air and to continue to report the truth in Russia despite years of intimidation and sanction from the Kremlin were the subject of an inspiring documentary released last week.
For their last broadcast, Sindeyeva joined the station’s entire news team in front of the camera to say goodbye to viewers. “No to war,” she said.
