Madera police arrested a man Wednesday after a driver reported that a nearby resident pointed what appeared to be a handgun at him on Pine Street, authorities said.
The victim told police he did not know the suspect and did not know why the weapon was pointed at him, according to the Madera Police Department.
Officers with the department’s Special Investigations Unit worked with patrol officers and later served a search warrant in the 500 block of Pine Street.
The investigation led to the arrest of Gerardo Zurita Reyes on suspicion of brandishing what police determined was a replica handgun, resisting or delaying an officer, and possession of a controlled substance. Police said Reyes was also arrested in connection with an unrelated vandalism case.
Because the home was near schools, police said school staff were notified before the warrant was served and precautions were taken to protect students.
Police said the Special Investigations Unit was able to rapidly deploy and assist patrol officers during the investigation.
