A man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly assaulting a woman with a broom, threatening her with a knife, and refusing to surrender to Fresno police for about 25 minutes, authorities told GV Wire.

Officers assigned to the Fresno Police Department’s Southwest Policing District responded around 2:01 p.m. to a reported domestic violence disturbance.

The victim told officers that Isaac Antonio Botello had been arguing with her earlier in the afternoon and accused her of placing something in her ear that allowed him to hear voices in his head, police said.

During the argument, Botello allegedly picked up a knife and held it downward in a stabbing motion above his shoulder while standing about 6 feet from the victim.

Police said Botello then grabbed a broom and struck the victim in the head. He also allegedly swung the wooden handle into the back of her shoulder and her right arm, breaking the broom during the assault.

Two of the victim’s children witnessed the incident, police said.

The victim ran outside to call for help.

When officers attempted to speak with Botello, he ignored several commands to stop and approach them before running inside his apartment, police said.

Officers told Botello several times that he was under arrest and needed to surrender, but he refused to leave the apartment. Police said officers spent about 25 minutes attempting to convince him to surrender before taking him into custody.

Botello was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a weapon, child abuse, and resisting officers. His bail is set at $50,000, and he has an immigration hold, according to Fresno County jail records.
