Fresno Humane will provide free microchips, each valued at $150 for cats and dogs now through July 3.
The microchipping campaign comes as shelter workers prepare for the national holiday, which can be stressful for animals due to the loud noises and bright lights from fireworks displays.
Many pets run away from home out of fright, said Maria Garcia, shelter manager for Fresno Humane Animal Services.
“The Fourth of July can be a stressful time for pets and having them microchipped can be critical for reunification,” Garcia said in a statement. “With a generous donation from Fresno Furry Friends, FHAS will be providing 150 no-cost microchips for cats and dogs from June 22nd through July 3rd.”
Fresno Humane to Help Pets Get Microchips
Fresno Humane will offer free microchipping services daily through July 3 at 1510 W. Dan Ronquillo Dr. Walk-ins are welcome, and openings remain available.
The Fresno County Department of Public Health recommends keeping pets indoors in a quiet, secure room during the holiday to reduce stress caused by fireworks.
Playing calming music or white noise can help mask loud sounds, while interactive toys, such as lick mats or food puzzles, can keep pets occupied.
Pet owners are also encouraged to provide familiar hiding places, such as a crate or carrier, and ensure their pets wear up-to-date identification tags on their collars.
