China is emerging as a global leader in physical artificial intelligence, showcasing humanoid robots, drone swarms, and automated factories that are beginning to enter everyday life, according to Time Magazine.
During the Feb. 16 Spring Festival Gala, Chinese robots danced, performed martial arts, and executed parkour routines for millions of viewers, while tens of thousands of AI-coordinated drones lit up the skies.
Chinese companies dominate global robotics supply chains, producing key components such as lidar sensors, robot joints, and harmonic reducers, and scaling production to cut costs. Last year, China accounted for more than 80% of global humanoid robot installations and over half of industrial robots.
Cities including Beijing, Wuhan, and Shanghai are creating training sites for robots in homes, retail, and care facilities.
Experts say the U.S. retains advantages in software, research, and talent, but China’s state-backed strategy in hardware production is accelerating its lead in physical AI.
